Waves in the Solar Wind
I study the effects of plasma waves on different particle populations, mostly using in-situ data from an array of current and past satellite missions. These measurements range from magnetic and electric field data to particle fluxes, and vary in location from the near-Sun environment all the way down to ground-based magnetometer arrays.
I have worked both in data analysis and instrument/hardware development capacities, and am especially fascinated by the measurements we are able to make through inferences of physical processes in relatively simple devices. I focus on the perturbations we see that deviate from the steady-state heliospheric conditions, as these indicate periods/regions where energy must flow to reestablish the balance. Finding the drivers and consequences of these perturbations is an essential part of our progress towards predicting the effects of solar activity on our planet.
